And that very day the LORD brought the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt like an army. Exodus 12:51
In the highly competitive world of sports, two things are critical: (1) players recruited and (2) coaches hired. The latter is more critical than the former. It is the coach who is responsible for directing the players activities and molding a group of questionable individuals into a winning team. Moses had ardent task of coaching a nation of slaves into one of the greatest teams in history. God had given the objective – EXIT EGYPT. Moses coached them straight through into victory. First, they had to reestablish worship. Having been in Egypt over 400 years with no clear pattern for worship other than Egyptian worship, Israel was greatly disadvantaged. Get a lamb, one year old without blemish and in its prime. This is a picture of Christ who was chosen to die for the sins of the world. Jesus was born King – not bequeathed his kingdom, not elected king, not voted king. Every house was required to have a lamb. Next they had to wait four days. This symbolized the gospel going into all the world – North, South, East and West. Then, they were instructed to kill and roast the lamb. The lamb was not to be raw because Christ would not die of natural causes. It was not to be boiled because the tempestuous storms of Galilee would not drown the Savior. It was ROASTED - because they had to pierce and skew and pin the shoulders of the lamb and the family watch it turn over the flame. WAIT! Before you eat it… Take THE BLOOD, pour it in a basin (there is a fountain filled with blood). Get a hyssop branch dip it in the blood and sprinkled on the door (your mouth). Sprinkle some on the side-posts and lentil but not the threshold so as not to trample the blood under the foot of men.Next, came the meal. Eat the whole Lamb; not in part, you must take in all of The Lord Jesus Christ. Eat unleavened bread – leaven is sin. Get the sin out of your life. No more leaven in 2011. Eat the bitter herbs; remember the bitterness of bondage of Egypt - sin (Egypt)
Finally, posture yourself for movement. With your cloak tucked in your belt, shoes on your feet and staff in hand. Eat it in haste and get ready to go. Well, the death angel is traveling up and down our streets today. But, if you have THE LAMB on the inside of your heart and THE BLOOD on the door of your mouth, you are safe. GOD SAID, “When I see THE BLOOD, I will pass over you. Moses said, “AND THAT NIGHT… while Egypt was burying their firstborn and smashing their idols and cursing their gods. We left!” Shake Pharaoh’s yoke off and LET’S ROLL!
Prayer
Father, Help me to eat the whole Lamb, the unleavened bread and bitter herbs you have prepared for me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
