There is no such thing as a self-made man! We are nothing more than what God, in His Sovereign Will, has allowed us to be. It is sheer pride for anyone to brag about his/her accomplishments. Remember Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon? He, too, thought he was in control. He was the most powerful man on earth in his time. He had enough encounters with God to become a worshiper! But instead he worshiped Daniel (Dan.2:46). People hear God’s word, see His light, feel His touch and yet get enraptured by the gift and not the Giver. Be careful that you do not worship the creature more than the Creator (Romans 1:25).
Nebuchadnezzar built an image of himself and forced all the people bow down and worship the image at the sound of the music (except 3 brave young men). As he walked and talked throughout his reign, he took credit for everything, completely forgetting that the God who promised to bless him also promised to break him! This man was walking in the sin of pride and it appeared as if there would be no justice for those whom he had oppressed. What do you do when the truth is trapped in the dungeon while the lie is reigning on the throne? Don’t panic. Trust God, because the day came when King Nebuchadnezzar lost it all.
This man, before whom millions trembled, was now reduced to a pathetic, wretched, ugly beast. Nebuchadnezzar was afflicted with a disease we now call lycanthropy. He goes into this condition with the last words he heard being those of the judgment of God. Remember, when it looks like there's no hope: (1) Don’t Panic; (2) Trust God. God is Sovereign and His plan must run its course. Finally, and most importantly (3) Start Thinking Ahead because you need a vision of what your life will be like when your Nebuchadnezzar is gone.
Prayer
Father, thank you for your sovereignty; free me from anxiety and gift me with implicit trust in you. Help me to wait on you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
